Check that page closer to 31 October if you are visiting for a particular product or business. Older photos can show the atmosphere, but they do not guarantee that the same traders will return.

Vegetarian food at the festival

Food is a central part of the Melbourne Diwali experience, with vegetarian Indian and South Asian flavours promoted across the festival. The final vendor list and individual menus are not yet a complete 2026 menu, so it is better to discover confirmed dishes through stall profiles than to rely on examples from a previous year.

Vegetarian does not automatically mean vegan, Jain, Satvik, gluten-free or allergy-safe. Preparation spaces and ingredients differ between vendors. If you have a medical allergy or follow a specific diet, ask the stallholder directly about ingredients and cross-contact before ordering.

Dance and live cultural performances

The performance programme will feature Indian classical, folk and Bollywood dance, live music and a dance competition. These styles give visitors different views of Indian culture, from traditional forms to contemporary community performance.

Melbourne Diwali welcomed 15,000+ visitors and presented over 45 performances in 2025. Those figures show the scale of the previous festival; they are not a promise that the 2026 programme will repeat the same acts, running order or audience size.

How to plan food, shopping and performances

• Start with one or two must-see performances, then leave time to browse rather than scheduling every minute.
• Review vendor profiles when they are published and note any stalls you particularly want to visit.
• Ask food vendors about dietary needs at the point of purchase.
• Allow time for queues during the busiest parts of a free city festival.
• Use public transport where possible: Southern Cross Station is around five minutes away, and Saturday tram routes 70, 75 and 86 stop nearby.
