Planning your Diwali jewellery? Choose pieces you can wear comfortably, check their fastenings, make a private record of treasured items and decide where everything will go before and after the celebration. If you use offsite storage, arrange retrieval and return around the provider's actual opening hours, rather than assuming you can visit after the festival.

A family bangle, a wedding necklace or a favourite pair of earrings can carry memories as well as value. This guide helps you make a practical plan for those pieces, including questions to ask if you are considering jewellery storage with Guardian Vaults.

Choose what you will enjoy wearing

Start with the pieces you feel comfortable wearing for an afternoon or evening out. Try them with your outfit and check clasps, earring backs and bracelets at home. If something seems loose or damaged, ask a qualified jeweller to assess it before wearing it.

Consider leaving spare sets behind rather than carrying jewellery to change into during the day. There is no need to wear valuable pieces to celebrate. For clothing and accessory ideas, see our guide to what to wear to Diwali.

Make a private record of family heirlooms

Victoria Police's advice on securing valuables includes photographing valuable items and recording serial or model numbers where applicable. For jewellery, a clear photograph and notes about distinctive features can be a useful starting point.

As a practical family record, note which pieces you have selected, any existing receipts or valuations, and where the records are kept. Store that information securely and separately from the jewellery. Keep storage locations, keys and access details private rather than including them in social posts.

You might also write down the story behind a treasured piece. Who gave it to you? What occasion does it mark? Those memories deserve a place in the family record too.

Plan storage around your festival visit

Melbourne Diwali is on Saturday 31 October 2026, from 2pm to 10pm, at Marvel Stadium Square in Docklands. Entry is free. The festival visitor information has the current details.

If you keep jewellery at home, review how it is secured before leaving. Victoria Police's guidance includes using a safe for valuables and keeping them away from windows. If you use a safe deposit box elsewhere, work out when you will collect your items and when you can return them.

Do not assume a storage branch will be open on the festival Saturday or after the 10pm finish. Check holiday closures and arrange what happens between wearing the jewellery and returning it. Plan those trips separately from getting to Marvel Stadium Square.

Considering jewellery storage with Guardian Vaults

Guardian Vaults describes storage for jewellery and family heirlooms on its jewellery storage page. Its Melbourne location page lists facilities at 100 William Street and 271 Collins Street, with branch access information and box options.

It is one option to compare if you are considering offsite storage. Check the current arrangements for your chosen branch, including holiday closures, rather than relying on a general opening-hours summary. This is a separate storage service, not a festival-day drop-off arrangement; do not assume jewellery storage is available at Melbourne Diwali.

Five questions to ask before choosing storage

  • Will the box fit my jewellery inside its protective cases, and are there any item or weight restrictions?
  • What is the total cost, minimum term and process for ending the arrangement?
  • Who is authorised to access the items, and what identification or keys are required?
  • When can I retrieve and return items, including weekends, public holidays and long weekends?
  • What cover applies while items are stored, in transit or being worn? Ask the provider and your insurer for the relevant terms and exclusions in writing.

Use the answers to compare convenience, access and cost against your own arrangements. Storage should fit how you use your jewellery throughout the year, not only one celebration.

Your before-and-after checklist

  • Before leaving: choose your pieces, check fastenings, make your private record and confirm where unworn items will stay.
  • During the celebration: keep track of anything you remove and avoid leaving jewellery unattended.
  • Afterwards: check that each piece is accounted for and follow your planned storage or return arrangements.

Read the visitor FAQs for current guidance on what to bring. With those decisions made beforehand, you can give your attention to the people, food and celebrations around you.
