Entry is free at Melbourne Diwali, but plan separately for your journey, food and any optional purchases. Choose a comfortable total for your group before leaving home. The festival runs on Saturday 31 October 2026, from 2pm to 10pm at Marvel Stadium Square, Docklands. No entry ticket is required. Free registration is optional: it helps organisers plan and keeps you informed of updates.

Read the festival visitor guide and visitor FAQs before you go. Free entry does not mean every purchase or activity is free. Before joining an activity, ask whether there is a charge and what is included. Buying something is not a condition of being welcome.

Price your whole journey

Before allocating money for food or shopping, work out the total cost of getting there and home. Use the official Transport Victoria metropolitan fares page to check each traveller's return journey and confirm any concession or free-travel eligibility.

If driving, consult the Marvel Stadium parking page and check your 31 October arrival and departure details when booking. Casual and event rates differ, so do not assume a generic weekend rate applies. Include fuel and tolls if applicable. Compare the whole journey's cost and accessibility needs to choose what works for your group.

Agree food and treats spending with companions

The stall directory grows as traders are announced. It is not a complete 2026 menu or price list. Check menus and prices when available and again when you arrive. Ask about portion size and what is included before ordering, rather than relying on a photograph.

Discuss whether your spending limit is per person or for the whole group. Plan meals around the length of your visit and agree on any extra treats with children beforehand. That gives everyone a clearer idea of the day without making every stall a new spending decision.

Choose one priority instead of a shopping list

Use the festival schedule to choose a performance you would like to see. As at 17 October 2026, it lists confirmed groups rather than individual set times. Check again before planning your arrival around one act.

Gift shopping is optional. If you want to buy something, set a limit before browsing. There is no need to buy a new outfit either: comfortable everyday clothing is welcome. The what to wear guide explains your options.

Pack things you already own

Bring a jumper and a non-glass refillable water bottle. Save your budget note on your phone and charge it before leaving. If you plan to buy anything, pack a reusable shopping bag. Confirm accepted payment methods before purchasing, and keep money for your return journey separate from optional spending.

Copyable phone‑note checklist

  • Group size: ___
  • Return transport/parking cost: ___
  • Meals & drinks: ___
  • Optional gifts/activities: ___
  • Small contingency: ___
  • Estimated total: ___
  • Comfortable spending limit: ___
  • Planned arrival/departure: ___

Add the four spending rows: transport, meals, optional purchases or activities, and contingency. Count shared parking once, but allow for each person's meals. Include both parking and train fares only if your journey uses both. Enter zero for extras you do not want.

Compare the estimated total with your comfortable limit. If it is higher, review optional purchases first and protect return travel and essential needs. The aim is time together at the festival, not a shopping target to reach.
