Looking for things to do in Docklands before Melbourne Diwali? Choose one nearby stop: Library at The Dock for books, Docklands Park for play, or We The Wild for a short garden visit. Keep the outing manageable so everyone still has energy when the festival begins at 2pm.

The Melbourne Diwali Festival at Marvel Stadium Square in Docklands runs from 2pm to 10pm on Saturday, 31 October 2026. Entry is free, and the event takes place in the external precinct, not the seating bowl. For more details, visit the festival event info page.

These are independent Docklands places, not activities organised by Melbourne Diwali. Choose the one that suits your group, check its current information and leave time to reach the festival without rushing.

Library at The Dock

For an indoor stop with books to browse, consider Library at The Dock. Located at 107 Victoria Harbour Promenade, this public library and community hub offers a waterfront setting with books, study areas, and exhibition spaces. As checked on 29 September, the City of Melbourne lists Saturday hours of 10am to 4pm.

Check the official library listing again before setting out. Pick this option if your group would enjoy reading rather than another outdoor activity. It is a public library, not a designated festival quiet space; this guide does not promise a particular workshop, exhibition or room.

Docklands Park

For an outdoor play break, consider Docklands Park. Situated at 1-91 Harbour Esplanade, the park features grassy areas, native trees, public art, and the Play Journey interactive playground. Choose it if children would enjoy a playground before spending time watching performances.

Treat this as a weather-dependent stop. The park is outdoors, unlike an indoor attraction. Check access for both your chosen stop and the onward route. Our festival accessibility guide covers visiting Melbourne Diwali; it does not establish accessibility throughout Docklands.

We The Wild Garden

For a short garden stop, consider We The Wild at 131 Harbour Esplanade. Originally created for the 2026 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, it is now a permanent waterfront installation inspired by Victoria’s southern coastline.

The City of Melbourne listing currently shows all-day access. Choose it for a brief look at the planting rather than a playground visit or a long indoor break. Check the listing and the weather before including it. There is no guided visit or festival activity promised here.

Planning Your Pre-Festival Day

  1. Choose your festival arrival time: Check the programme for the latest confirmed timings, then work backwards. You do not have to arrive at 2pm. Set a finishing time for your one nearby stop.
  2. Check the Weather: Before you set out, check the forecast to ensure you’re prepared for any conditions. This will help you make the most of your chosen activity.
  3. Map your route: Save your chosen stop and 740 Bourke Street, Docklands. Allow walking and rest time that suits your group. We suggest an extra 30-minute buffer, not a 30-minute walking estimate. Use our transport guide for the journey into Docklands.
  4. Pack for both settings: Carry water and a layer for later. The festival precinct is undercover but open-sided. Our clothing guide covers comfortable shoes and layers for the day.
  5. Charge Your Phone: Make sure your phone is charged and save the venue addresses for easy navigation.

Before you leave

  • Recheck your chosen attraction’s listing and the forecast. The details here were checked on 29 September 2026.
  • Agree when you will leave that stop and who will navigate.
  • Save the festival address and your journey home.
  • Keep the extra outing optional. If the group is tired, head straight to Melbourne Diwali at your chosen time.

One enjoyable stop is enough. Leave room in the day for the people you are coming with, as well as the festival you are coming to see.
